It is widely recognized that the tablet is one of the most revolutionary IT products since the cellphone. From Apple to Olive, from Spice to Intex, everyone wants a piece of the tablet market. The tablet battle has heated up with every manufacturer trying to provide something different. With so much variety and so many advantages over any other computer system, the tablet is undoubtedly the king of the IT products market right now.

Today, the tablet is slowly becoming a necessity rather than a luxury. The tablet market is not old and the recent innovation with phones has already acted as a building block for tablets. So, we take a look at how tablets are changing the market, how they are changing the way we work and the recent developments regarding the tablets.

Apple kickstarted the tablet revolution. Apple's iPad was the world's first tablet and with 15 millions iPads sold in just 2010, it provided us with a good reason that tablet is surely the computer of the future. No one in their wildest dreams had imagined the tablet doing so well. Apple's success attracted other manufacturers to market and it became an open market for everyone. Today, multiple brands are looking forward to launching their own tablets.

Tablets have slowly transformed into the Hercules of the IT market. They have done what no one had anticipated. They have actually left a dent in the PC market. The overall decline in worldwide PC sales was 3.2%, just for 2010.

Tablets are slowly making IT giants like Microsoft obsolete. Microsoft's revenue from the Windows OS has fallen 4%, due to its inability to provide a specialized tablet OS. Other industry giants like Google with its Android OS and Apple with iOS, have slowly become industry giants in Operating Systems, once Microsoft’s niche.

On the other hand, tablet sales soared to 19.5 Million units in 2010 and are expected to quadruple to 55 Million units in 2011. It is expected to even cross that margin this year.

Even small manufacturers like Spice and Intex have taken out their own tablets, while the relatively unknown Whitebox has given Apple a run for its money. Not only that, technology giants like Google and Nokia are vying for just the tablet Operating Systems. Apple's iOS, Google's Android, HP's web OS and Nokia's Meego are currently generating heat in the market.

The tablet is not just a fad. Standard Chartered has actually transferred all it's systems on the iPad and will be shortly providing all its employees with one. Other corporates are expected to follow the suit.

The tablet is really the most popular IT product and is touted to be the king at least until 2015.
