Projecting calls with projector phones: Feasible or farfetched?
Published on Jul 25, 2011
A phone has today graduated from just being a device that was used to make and receive calls to being really, the big daddy of all gadgets. It has grown to accommodate a camera, a music player, a TV and even a computer. Yes, we have entered the smartphone era. In today's time every phone wants to be a revolutionary of its kind. The most recent development that we have seen in this arena is of course of projector phones.
A projector, as we know, is a very expensive device that lets you watch your content at very high definitions on very big screen. But with the support of both technology and innovation, today's phones such as the Spice Popkorn, Intex V.Show, Galaxy Beam, Intex V.Mini, TechBerry ST 200 and G5 provide you with inbuilt projectors which can offer decent image projections. On the other hand companies such as Skype and Apple have gone a step further and provided us with the facility to make video calls, where can see, via video interface whatever the other person is doing while talking to us.
With the evolving technology we are likely to see lot of variations and mix match of ideas. We have actually gone ahead and projected a futuristic technology. What you are about to read, we should mention, is not a real technology. It seems, at the moment, too much of a drier actually. But I am not providing you with some utopian vision of the future. Rather, i am talking about something that is, very much possible in the near future.
So, what really is the future of phones?
You don't need to be a geek or an engineer to answer that question. From landlines to huge, chunky pieces of metal that we used to call 'mobile phones' , to sleek, elegant pieces that fit right in the palm of your hand, our generation has seen et all with regard to the mobile phone revolution.
I wouldn't even call this my own vision of the future, neither am i ruing to seduce you into some fantasy. It is a vision that has been partly derived from what i have seen on the big screen and partly from recent technologic advances.
No one, who has seen Star trek, will forget the transporter effect that was used to transport people from one place to another through time and space. And on a recent episode of the famous comedy show, How I Met Your Mother. i do believe, we got a glimpse of the future. This part of the show was set in the future and shows Ted talking to Marshall in the year 2030. Hmmm, but why am i bringing it out here? Because Ted is not only 'talking' to Marshall, instead as he calls Marshall, a projected image of him appears right in front of him.
So how is this applicable here? Let me rewind a bit. One kind of phones I mentioned earlier were projector phones. I guess I also talked about video calls. So, i am talking about a person to person interface here. My idea is that in the future, we will have phones that will provide us the opportunity to connect better. In the future, it is quite possible that as we talk to a person, over a phone, we might be able to feel as if we are directly talking to them. These phones will provide one person to directly communicate with the projected image of the person he or she is talking to. For example, if you call up your wife, you will know 'exactly' what she means when she gives you a cold one.
I believe that a phone equipped with the proper video camera and projector and an enhance ability to record such as Apple's Facetime should give us the proper recipe for success. And what would be the size of this phone? What about the battery backup? What will be the projection size?
I believe if this phone becomes a reality, its debut will be on a bulky piece but as we go along, it will grow sleeker and more user friendly. Quite obviously, a standard Lithium Ion battery will not be able to support such a phone. We would need a battery that packs a punch in a small package. We would be envisioning a Nitrogen, Hydrogen or Helium powered battery. The projection size, i suppose will be small at the start but as it gets more and more developed, it will start giving life size projections. Think of the lives it will change. It will allow us to connect better, emotionally. It can become a boon to medical science. It could change the way we do business. It would revolutionize education.
All i have to say is that, according to me, phones have immense potential and future phones, i suppose, will change the way we think and communicate and with ideas like these, the future is definitely exciting.
