Subtle reference to Lion in Apple's new iPad 2 ad

Published on Jul 26, 2011

The new “We’ll always” advertisement talks about how there are certain things people have been doing and will always do, and how the iPad 2 will make us all do them in new, exciting and easier ways. Apple has posted the new feel-good commercial on the iPad 2 page on its official site and on YouTube.

The ad brings out the fact that we will always share our memories, read books and cook dinner. Things we enjoy doing, things that are a part of our daily schedules. Of course, with the iPad “how we do all this will never be the same”.

In the part where the ad focuses on a child learning new things, the child is shown writing “Lion” next to a picture of the majestic beast.  This could be a coincidence but many experts feel that it a reference to the Mac OS X Lion, given the company’s tight control.

The iPad is raking in the moolah for Apple; the company announced just last week that it had sold 9.25 million units in the last quarter. Apple has taken features from the iOS and the iPad and introduced them into the Mac through the Lion. The Mac OS X 10.7 Lion has recently been introduced in the Mac App Store. On the first day, it attracted over one million downloads.

The Lion has been well received and we will keep a watch on consumer trends in the coming months. Meanwhile, the iPad 2 is thinner, lighter and more powerful than its predecessor. With exciting new and improved features like two cores in one A5 chip, better graphics, two cameras and up to 10 hours of battery life, it looks like it is going to keep Apple at the top of the game for a long, long time!
