Samsung has made its mark in the ever-expanding tablet market with its Galaxy Tab. This tablet series from Samsung already boasts of high worldwide sales. In an effort to ace the other players in the tablet market, Samsung plans to unveil the world’s first major 4G tablet - the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G.

So, what is 4G and how is it different from 3G?

The term 4G refers to the fourth generation Internet capability. It promises extreme download speeds and easy access than the 3G network. The US and most of Europe already run on 4G.

And, secondly, what does the Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G have on offer?

The new Galaxy Tab will run on a technology called the Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology. It will start running on the current Android platform - the Honeycomb OS. Both the 16 GB and 32 GB will be available in this category. The estimated download speed with 4G would be 5-12 mbps.

The Galaxy Tab will run on a dual core 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor that will further enable it to have smooth functioning. It will retain most of the features of its predecessor - the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

It would support a 3.2 MP front facing camera along with a 2-megapixel one at the back. In addition to that, it would support standard features such as a compass, GPS and a Wi-Fi locator.

This tablet would have enhanced portability as it would weigh only 1.25 pounds and would be just 8.6 mm thick.

We in India would still have to wait to experience Samsung's innovative technology as even the 3G network is still in its initial stages here. But, one shouldn't lose hope as the industry pundits have predicted that India will be 4G ready by 2012. Until then such devices just seem to be deluge of wishful thinking.

All said and done, we do believe the Galaxy Tab 4G will still be worth the long wait. Watch this space for more on 4G tablets.
