Battery saving tips for smartphone users

Published on Jul 27, 2011

So, you decided to get the best smartphone in the market. As, the name suggests, smartphones enable you to do many things at once. You get to use the extensive apps, surf the net and what not.

But, where does the smartphone get so much power to support such functions? From its batteries. So, if you want to optimise the battery of your smartphone here is how to do it:

1. Optimize the brightness: All smartphones in the market today are equipped with light sensors, but the brightness is kept to the maximum. You can easily adjust this setting and optimize the battrey life of your smartphone.

2. Refrain from using screen savers/ Live wallpapers: While the concept of live wallpapers is a really cool one, it is not battery friendly. These wallpapers tend to exhaust your battery while the phone is sitting idle. They also prevent your smartphone processor from automatically enabling the energy saver mode.

3. Sync on time: Every smartphone today is connected to the net 24 x 7. Most of the manufacturers today provide you the option to sync your device online. This saves both time and battery. The latest smartphones even provide you with the option of pre-determining the number of times your device needs to sync. This will drastically reduce the need for your phone to sync in the background as you use it.

4. Turn off Radio, Wi-Fi, and GPRS: Although it seems convenient to keep the WiFi and other apps open all the time, it is not recommended.

5.  Use the GPS only when you need it: GPS or Global Positioning system seems an excellent technology that allows the device to identify its location, but actually it is a power hungry monster which you should enable only when needed.

6. Vibrate less: The vibrate mode is there only for meetings and places where you need to be "silent". The truth about phone vibrators is that they tend to use much more power than a normal ringer.

Armed with these tips, you are not only a smartphone user, but also a smart user.
