India is one of the first countries outside the United States to receive the Android 3.1 updated OS. In fact, it is ahead of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Europe. With all the new features the 3.1 is offering, it promises to be a very entertaining weekend for users of the Motorola Xoom.
The update itself is going to be over- the-air with a notification popping up on all Xoom tablets. All users have to do is click on the notification to start the upgrade to the 3.1 OS. In case some devices fail to receive the notification, users can manually install the OS by going into the settings tab and selecting system updates under the ‘about tablet’ icon.
The Android 3.1 update offers its users new and improved ways to use their Xoom tablets. Most importantly, it will activate the MicroSD card slot so that users can expand the tablets external memory to 64GB.
It will also make multitasking seamless and provide support over Bluetooth for a keyboard, mouse, gaming joystick and gaming pad. With the 3.1, widgets can be resized to a user’s convenience and pictures can be transferred directly on to the phone from a camera via USB. Apps can remain connected to the internet through WiFi even when the screen is asleep. The update includes Adobe Flash Player and File Manager as well. What’s more, Bluetooth headsets will be supported in GoogleTalk video chats.
The update is sized at around 40MB and will be available for Motorola Xoom 3G and WiFi as early as this morning. Other countries in Asia Pacific and Europe will most probably get their hands on the update sometime in August.
Go ahead Xoom owners, there’s a lot yet to discover on your tablet!
