There are few users who like mobile phones which come with high-end features and loads of fancy apps and there are few who need devices which are simply built to deliver the very basic functionalities such as calling and texting.

If you fall within this second bracket, you may well, sort of, like this new Nokia smartphone. However, for the vast majority of people, mobile phones are meant to be high-tech gizmos or awesome little bundles of technology that connect them to a world of information and friends.

Surprisingly, Nokia caters to the likings of the people who don't demand much from their mobile phones and the Nokia 6700 Slide is ideally suited for the younger generation or adults that, for whatever reason, don't care much for "all that fancy stuff".

And when we say, "no fancy stuff," we do mean it. The Nokia 6700 Slide doesn't have to offer anything remotely striking about it – apart from the device's weight, which is bordering on ridiculous for its size. For instance, it's significantly heavier than BlackBerry Bold 9700 and it's probably about half the size, which isn't a good thing – ever.

On the home screen you're confronted with a familiar collection of icons, which link to the following things: set-up email, camera, Ovi Store, Facebook, Browser, Message and Photos. Anyone who has used a Nokia S60 device before will feel right at home.

On the plus side, the Nokia 6700 Slide has a pretty decent camera, which allows you to capture some fairly decent pictures. However, during testing we did find that the actual process of taking a picture was quite a long one – about 3 seconds from pressing the button.

Couple this with the fact that there is about a gazillion better handsets with better camera on the market and not even 5 megapixels of Carl Zeiss, auto-focus, LED flash-action can save the Nokia 6700 Slide.

Storage wise, the Nokia 6700 Slide is pretty damn good, featuring 2GB onboard and a further 16GB via SD card. In this regard, the Nokia 6700 Slide has a lot going for it – you'll be able to store plenty of music and video files on 16GB of space.

Unfortunately – and there always is with low-end Nokia devices – there's no support for 3.5mm jack input, so you'll have to listen to your 16GB of music through the 2.5mm headphones the 6700 Slide comes with – which are, quite possibly, the worst headphones in the universe.

Adding to the woe, the Nokia 6700 slide lacks Wi-Fi features as well. Furthermore, once you've opened a web page up-and-running on the 6700 Slide, you will quickly realise how hard it is to navigate with the 6700 Slide's cumbersome trackball. From this point on, you'll probably just give up and hope it doesn't connect next time you try.

However, there are certain positive aspects of this device for sure. You may find both calling and texting on the Nokia Slide 6700 is a real pleasure – the call quality is adequate and the keypad, which is alphanumeric, feels great under your fingertips.

In addition to this, the device is very snappy and breezes through operations and apps with very little delay. The battery life, like on all Nokia devices, is durable and you could probably talk non-stop on it for a week without it running down to zero.

Overall, the Nokia 6700 Slide isn't anything to get excited about. However, this doesn't mean that it is a bad phone either and, in all sincerity, it isn't.

If you want a reliable, easy-to-use mobile phone that offers easy texting, calling, email functionalities, social networking tools – but you don't want to spend a lot of money or deal with lots of "fancy stuff" – then the Nokia 6700 Slide is ideally meant for you.

In short, this is the perfect mobile phone for the users that demand very little from their handsets.
