As we said earlier, the Nokia E72's screen is a little pokey – so don’t expect much of a web browsing experience. The exact measurements of the screen is - 320 x 240 pixels - 2.36-inches, and while it may serve it’s purpose – again, very adequately – it’s not nearly big enough for the modern world of mobile internet and working comfortably on the move.
The Nokia E72 also features an optical trackpad, which has obviously been included to make browsing web pages easier. However, during testing we found that it was a little unpredictable and not nearly as sensitive as we would have liked. Basically, we would have preferred a touchscreen – it just makes browsing so much easier, and not like a chore, which it really is on the Nokia E72.
On a positive note, the Nokia E72 is very well kitted out in terms of connectivity and storage, featuring full 3G, GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, and 2 Mbps WLAN, which means you’ll be able to access email and the web, pretty much wherever you are – just don’t expect anything to rival the iPhone in terms of website rendering and image quality.
Storage wise, the Nokia E72 ships with a rather meagre 250MB of onboard storage. However, users that require more can expand it to 4 GB via MicroSD memory card (with hot swap), support for up to 16 GB – although you'll have to fork out an additional sum for the privilege.
There's also a 3.5mm jack, located on the top of the device, so you’ll be able to listen to music, watch videos and listen to the built in FM radio from the get-go. That said, it's probably worth splashing out on a pair of decent headphones, as the ones that come with the E72 are pretty awful.
The Nokia E72 also comes with a whole host of built in office applications, such as Document editor -Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF – Flash Lite v3.0, Push to talk, voice command/dial, Organizer and document printing. So in terms of office applications, the E72 is pretty well kitted out.
That said, the majority of smartphones now feature onboard out of office applications like these, which means the E72 is hardly a remarkable device in this sense – and unfortunately, the "business bit" was one of the only aspects the E72 had going for it.
All in all, this is a thoroughly average mobile phone. So, if you're expecting something to rival a BlackBerry of HTC device for example, then you will be massively disappointed.
In short, the Nokia E72 might have been impressive, but unfortunately it's not 1999 anymore and things, especially within mobile phone market, have moved on quite a bit.
