Nokia tells us its 'Time To Shift Gears'

Nokia India is all set to make a major announcement on the 9th of May as an event invitation suggests. The event will be held in New Delhi and could feature the announcement of a new smartphone specifically made for the Indian market or an accessory or something to do with the mid-ranged Asha lineup. There's still no word on what we'll see during the course of the event, but it should be something to look forward to.

The invite says, 'Time To Shift Gears' which indicates that there's something big coming up. But we won't be surprised if it's merely a software related announcement or the launch of a new service from Nokia. The company currently has a lot to worry about with the presence of several flagship smartphones since the past couple of months.

People are hardly talking about the Lumia smartphones these days and with good reason. The smartphone is a good seven months old now, at least since it was announced and there haven't been plenty of new smartphones for Nokia to brag of. Excessive ad campaigning can only do so much for a relatively underpowered smartphone, especially in the presence of juggernauts like the Sony Xperia Z and the newly launched Samsung Galaxy S4.

Let's hope this event changes all that as we would certainly like to see something new from Nokia. The Finns have been rather slow when it comes to launching flagship smartphones, so that's something the company would want to change. The Asha series of handsets on the other hand, are doing fairly well in India.
