Neither Samsung nor LG are shy of producing some top-class touchscreen device and the LG Optimus One and Samsung Star Duos are no different.

Here, we take a look to see which is the better.

Screen

The Samsung B7722, AKA Samsung Star Duos features a 240x400 pixel resistive touchscreen, while the LG Optimus One has a rather more upmarket 320x480 pixel capacitive number.

They both measure in at a decent 3.2-inches, making browsing the internet and carrying out most tasks a breeze.

Despite the Optimus One being more responsive and better-looking, the Star Duos' is not the worst we've seen.

Winner: LG Optimus One

OS

The Samsung Star Duos runs on Samsung's proprietary Java-based platform, with the Touchwiz 2.0 interface seen on the company's higher-end devices including the Samsung Omnia II.

The LG Optimus One runs on Android 2.2 and as such, it's one notch higher on the phone scale in comparison to the Star Duos, with access to Android Market, multitasking, Exchange email support and everything else that comes with Android with a light touch of LG's skin.

Look and feel

The Samsung Star Duos is a little smaller than the LG Optimus One. The front is mostly taken up with screens, while below buttons are kept to a minimum. The Star Duos' button is a triangle shaped button and is the menu button.

On the LG Optimus One, the button beneath the screen is rectangular and houses a home and back button.

To either side of this button, both the Optimus One and Star Duos have two further buttons.

The LG has a search button, as is the case on a number of Android devices, and the Samsung has a call answer and end button.

Whether you prefer the Samsung Star Duos or LG Optimus One is down to personal preference.

Winner: It's a draw

Camera

The Samsung Star Duos may not be the highest spec device on the market, but with a 5-megapixel camera, it's not on the lowest of the pile. It also has an LED flash which is great for taking pictures in dark conditions.

The LG Optimus One packs a 3.2-megapixel camera with the added bonus of autofocus. However, the resolution isn't there to compete with the Samsung Star Duos.

Other features

The Samsung Star Duos is a dual-SIM device, allowing you to use two SIM cards at the same time, one 3G and one 2G. However, you can only use one SIM card at a time, not them both together.

There is a handy button on the right hand side so you can quickly switch between the two SIM cards though. There's also a microSD card slot that supports cards up to 8GB.

The LG Optimus One has a powerful 600MHz processor to help with the multitasking and supports memory cards up to 32GB, which is an impressive feat for such a well-priced device.

Overall

The Samsung Star Duos and LG Optimus One are both top-performing handsets and are aimed at very different markets.

While the Samsung Star Duo is aimed at those who need to run two SIM cards at a time, it's also great for taking photos.

The platform isn't as polished as Android, it doesn't run as fast and it's not as powerful, but if you're on the market, it's a great choice.

LG has come up trumps with its Android device though. It's a top device and priced at RS. 10,700, it's an Android device you shouldn't miss out on.
