iPhone 5 launch date continues to be surrounded by a thick veil of secrecy. We take a closer look at all the rumored launch dates of the highly anticipated fifth generation device

The iPhone 5 is claimed to be the next best thing from the Apple factory. The device itself has now become something of a legend. There are many features that are touted to be there in the iPhone 5 but nothing can be ascertained about the device, as Apple remains tight-lipped about its products right until their launch.

Rumored to sport a 4-inch display, iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5 Nano are also expected to pack in a A5 or A6 processor. Other rumors include a GSM/CDMA dual-functionality with an eSIM, 4G connectivity, free Mobileme, a slide-out keyboard, a 12-megapixel camera, 3D and NFC capabilities among others.

India, along with the whole world, is waiting with bated breaths for the iPhone 5. The trend has been that we get Apple products long after their international launch. For e.g. we got the iPhone 4 in April 2011, it was actually released in the U.S. in June 2010.

Until now, Apple has been hesitant to launch its products in India, which is the world’s largest and fastest-growing market – we are coming close to a billion cellphone subscribers and adding 20 million every month. The reason for this might be that until recently, India was not considered a high-end products market.

But, the tables are turning. We recently played host to the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 730 and Galaxy Tab 750, one of the world’s most sought-out tablets.

Currently, Apple products are priced very high and carriers such as Aircel, Airtel and Vodafone offers plans that charge a very high tariff. We do hope that Apple comes up with better collaborations with its products in the future.

The Wall Street Journal recently published an article suggesting that the iPhone 5 would be launched in October 2011.If the global launch goes on as speculated, we can hope to lay our hands on an iPhone 5 by December.
