Spice to launch Mi-350 - India's first dual GSM SIM Android 3G handset

Priced below Rs 10,000, Spice Mi-350 a dual GSM 3G handset will be powered by Android Gingerbread

Spice Mobility a forerunner in "firsts" has surprised us yet again. The mobile phone manufacturer who gave Indian consumers, their first dual SIM phone, Android dual SIM phone is now bringing in the first Android dual GSM 3G phone.

Dubbed Mi-350, the Android Gingerbread smartphone will be priced below Rs 10,000. Expected to be launched in the next couple of days, the smartphone will seen sporting a 3.5 inch screen with a 480 x 320 pixel resolution and a 5 mega-pixel camera.

Talking with The Mobile Indian, Payal Gaba, Spice's general manager of marketing reveled that the smartphone will be India's first dual GSM SIM Android handset with 3G capability. The device will come equipped with a Qualcomm 600 MHz processor, 512 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. Available in Malaysia as a Android Froyo device, the device will also pack in stock features like GPS, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, gravity and proximity sensor.

Earlier this year Spice launched Mi-270 dual SIM and Spice Mi-410 Android phones, thereby marking its foray into the already crowded Android market segment. The company is also looking at launching other Android devices in market as well.

Also cashing in on the need for mobile internet, the company is shifting gears to become a mobile-internet company.This change results in form the expatiation of higher revenues from data.

Dr. B.K. Modi, Chairman of Spice said, “India is already one of the two fastest growing large economies in the world and can very well become the largest economy. Mobile Internet can enable India to achieve double digit GDP growth rate by capitalizing on the young population of the country.”

He further added,"earlier, we were known as a mobile phone company. Now we have merged our various divisions like devices, retail and value-added services into one and focus on mobile internet. Now we are close to a Rs 2,400 crore company."
