Everything you need to know about the HCL ME X1 tablet
HCL has launched the X1 ME tablet, designed to attract the budget consumer with a price tag of Rs. 10,490
HCL is a company known for its affordable IT products and its pan-Indian approach to the Indian market. In an effort to wow the Indian consumer, HCL has launched its new tablet - the HCL ME X1.
The HCL ME X1 has been designed keeping the Indian consumer in mind.Mr Harsh Chitale, CEO, HCL Infosystems, commented at the launch - " The X1 ME promises to bring great value by re-defining on-the-go user exprience with its innovative design, display and technology."
Lets have a detailed look at the HCL ME X1. The X1 comes with a 7-inch capacitive WVGA touchscreen with a 800 x 480p resolution. It runs Android 2.3 - Gingerbread OS on a 1 GHz Cortex A8 processor. it offers 512 MB RAM and a 2-megapixel front camera.
Along with internal memory support of 4 GB, it offers MicroSD support upto 32 GB.
But those are average features you would find in any budget tablet, be it the Reliance 3G Tab or the Beetel Magiq.
What differentiates the HCL ME X1 is the kind of market research that HCL has put in. HCL has taken into consideration what the consumer wants and needs.
Firstly, it has equipped the tablet with full HDMI support i.e. you can connect it to a TV or a PC and use the same functions on a bigger screen. We tested it out and the X1 came out with elan.
Secondly, it is equipped with Indian apps such as Hungama, Jeevansathi and Cleartrip. HCL has gone the extra mile and came up some features that differentiate the X1 from other tablets. One of these is its camera. Rather than hiking the price of the tablet by endowing it with high-res cameras, HCL has taken the practical path.
It has come up with a 2-megapixel camera that can be used for video chatting. The twist with the camera is that instead of the top side, it is located at the bottom making it more convenient to video chat.
We checked out some of the apps and even though the auto-rotate feature needs some improvement, it quite OK. But, some of the apps like its shares app and Cleartrip app don't auto-rotate.
We asked HCL the reason for this and they replied that while the shares app should be seen vertically to accomodate more rates, the Cleartrip app simply isn't made to do so.
The X1 also has a Think free office designed for business users and a ME connect that helps connect with other devices. It has an HCL touch button that provides you infrastructure support in case you are facing problems with your tablet.
It comes with a ME App store that consists of 10,000 apps.
With a Rs 10,490 price tag and 3500 mAh battery, HCL ME X1 seems to be on the right track in the Indian tablet market.
