Nokia has released the City Lens augmented reality browser app for Lumia smartphones

Lumia users have one more thing to look forward to in their Windows Phone devices. Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia has released an augmented reality browser application called Nokia City Lens for their smartphones.

Nokia City Lens is a functional and convenient app that allows Lumia users to find close by places of interest easily. In fact, it is an enhanced version of the app on Symbian phones. With City Lens, users can see everything that’s nearby any way they please - through the camera viewfinder view, maps view or list view.

In order to collect more information about a place, Lumia users need only to tap the phone to check out reviews and descriptions. They even have the option to call for directions. The City Lens app lets users conveniently share their location with friends and family on networking sites, email and text messages too. Lumia users can also save a search on the app to use later.

According to Wmpoweruser’s report, Nokia’s City Lens app is up and running and Lumia owners can download it on to their Windows Phone devices from the Nokia Labs site. The app is available in its beta version.

Nokia has taken the Lumia line of smartphones a step ahead with the launch of the City Lens application. In the face of stiff competition from Apple and Android, Nokia needs to make its products comparable, if not better, than other brands. From the looks of it, the City Lens app will certainly add to the functionality of Lumia devices. Hopefully, Nokia will not face any hiccups along the way

We will be looking out for further developments in the Nokia app and hardware worlds – stay tuned.
