The Samsung Galaxy 5 is just one of Samsung's Android-based devices available in India.

The Samsung Galaxy 5 is a tiny device in comparison to other Samsung Android devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 and even the Samsung Galaxy Ace.

This makes it very easy to slide into your pocket, although it does mean the screen is very small in comparison too other devices too.

At 2.8-inches, it's good for browsing simple websites, especially with the Android browser, but you won't be able to view text-based sites as easy as you can on larger screens.Text also looks quite blocky as the resolution is only 240x320 pixels. The screen does not support multitouch.

The Samsung Galaxy 5 is made from a shiny black plastic, giving it a premium look, but this does mean it attracts fingerprints easily.

With Android 2.1 onboard, you have access to Android Market for a range of applications.

There's a 2-megapixel camera and coupled with a 3.5mm headphone jack, you can make the most of the limited multimedia functions.

The Samsung Galaxy 5 is available for around Rs. 9,000 in India.

“The Samsung Galaxy 5 , is the smallest brother of the Galaxy S, Available from Samsung’s stable in India. The Device is a pocket friendly device priced between 9,000 – 10,000 INR (depending on city/state tax). But, don't let the price tag fool you this device is a fully featured smartphone.”

“The Galaxy 5 i5500 sells for an attractive Rs. 9,000. Even without seeing the similarly priced Acer beTouch e110, we can safely say this phone will be a better buy. However, one tough competitor will be the Huawei Ideos, which sells in the same price range and has similar features; except that it runs Android 2.2 Froyo, and has a slightly higher 3.2 megapixel sensor. But for any Corby lover, this phone is a great upgrade as it addresses almost all of my colleague's complaints in his otherwise positive review. ”

Phone Arena
“For people just entering the smartphone (or touchscreen phone, for that matter) universe, the Samsung Galaxy 5 is a great stepping stone, and even worth having around as a backup phone. As alternatives we would point out the LG Optimus GT540, or the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8, which step it up with a bigger 3” screen, 3MP camera, and better codec support (GT540), but run an older version of Android. ”

CNET Asia
“The Galaxy 5 is quite compact and light with dimensions of 108 x 56 x 12.3mm and a weight of 102g. It shares a similar design as the Corby, which is a good thing because this will appeal to the young market. Furthermore, if you think of it as an upgrade to the original Corby, the Galaxy 5 brings about a host of improvements because it runs on Android 2.1 (Eclair) and not a Samsung proprietary OS. ”
