HTC's Desire set of devices have been some of the most popular Android smartphones around and the HTC Desire HD is no different, with a massive 4.3-inch touchscreen on the front.
The Desire HD was launch six months after the original Desire and builds upon some of the quirks with the original device.
For starters, the screen is huge and absolutely stunning with a resolution of 480x800 pixels. It's much easier to view web pages, video and photos in comparison to the HTC Desire.
The redesigned browser is speedy and renders most pages in seconds.
One of the major flaws with the HTC Desire HD's screen size though, is that it completely drains the battery, a problem that is prevalent among touchscreen smartphones.
In fact, the battery life of the HTC Desire HD is one of the worst we've seen on a smartphone. You'll be lucky if you only have to charge it once during the day, even with moderate use.
Android 2.2 is shipped on the HTC Desire HD, and it is upgradeable to Android 2.3 - a bonus for Android lovers.
The updated OS feature a whole load of features not present on the HTC Desire, such as Wi-Fi Hotspot functionality, although this too drains battery.
The majority of the HTC Desire HD's front is the screen. Below the screen, there are touch sensitive buttons - a marked improvement on the hardware keys on the previous Desire. It also keeps the sleek look of the phone too.
On the top of the HTC Desire HD, there's the hardware lock/unlock button, but it's quite a stretch to reach it with one hand, while on the back there's an elongated speaker and an 8-megegapixel camera. This is a marked improvement on the HTC Desire's 5-megapixels, as is the interface which has been tweaked slightly.
Other multimedia features include a 3.5mm headphone jack and improved media player for playing music and video.
