Friend Stream is a social networking application for the newest version of the HTC Sense UI.
The first device it appeared on was the HTC Desire Z, but all new HTC phones with the latest version of Sense UI will get Friend Stream capabilities from now on.
To use Friend Stream, follow the instructions below:
Viewing your Friend Stream
- To add the Friend Stream widget to your home screen, scroll to an empty home screen, or delete any widget that you don't want on your home screen, by pressing and holding the widget and then sweeping it to the bottom of the screen.
- Tap on the '+' button on the bottom right of the display.
- Choose Widget and scroll down the list to find Friend Stream. Tap on it to place it on your home screen.
- Scroll through your home screens to find the Friend Stream, or pinch the home screen to see which home screen it's on - tap on the correct icon to navigate straight to it.
- When you open the home screen, Friend Stream will update all your friends' statuses.
- You can scroll up and down this list of updates by dragging your finger up or down.
- Tap on any update and you'll head to HTC Peep if it's a Twitter post and Facebook if you've just clicked on a Facebook update.
Using the Friend Stream application
- If you want to view everything that's going on among your contacts, tap on the arrow in the top right side of the Friend Stream widget.
- Here you'll be taken to the all updates screen.
- At the bottom of the application, there are four icons, with all updates as the first.
- The second is reserved for status updates, which includes Facebook and Twitter updates.
- The third is Photos that displays all photos updates from across Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. If anyone has posted pictures, they'll appear her in a stream.
- The final icon take you to links, which lists every update that includes a web link in it.
Replying to status updates and commenting on photos
Whichever of the screens you're on, you can add comments or reply to your contacts.
At all times, a 'What's on your mind' box appears at the top of the screen. Type in a status update to send it off to Twitter and Facebook.
When you tap on a Twitter status update, you'll go through to HTC Peep where you can reply to people's comments or post your own status update.
If you tap on a Facebook update, you'll head to Facebook for HTC and there you can comment on wall posts, or post your own status.
Updating your status simultaneously
You can update the status of all the social network accounts you are signed in to with just one entry.
- Click on the All updates tab
- Tap What's on your mind?
- Enter your status here, and all of your accounts will be updated at once
