Apple iPad Air is now official and here is everything you need to know about the fifth generation full sized iPad

Apple has officially announced the latest version of its full sized iPad dubbed iPad Air (rumored iPad 5). As the name suggests, iPad Air which is reminiscent of iPad Mini released in 2012 is thinner and lighter than the earlier versions and features a smaller bezel across the screen minimizing its footprint without compromising on the display size.

Form Factor

As claimed by Apple, the iPad Air is 20% thinner measuring only 7.5mm in thickness and weighs 453 grams, which is again 28% lesser than the previous generation iPad. Nevertheless to say, the screen remains the same measuring 9.7-inch with Retina display boasting of 2048x1536 pixel resolution.

Also, the bezel surrounding the screen is 43% thinner than that in the older generation models, as suggested by several rumors and speculations.

iPad Air incorporates an A7 chipset, which is same as the one found on iPhone 5s and it has eight times faster processing power and is capable of delivering 72 times faster graphics than the first generation iPad. Also, the CPU features an improved architecture to improve the battery life. Lastly, the iPad Air Wi-Fi with MIMO is twice faster than before and has built-in microphones to help improve the audio quality.

Though there is just a 5-megapixel iSight sensor at the rear, the tablet is fitted with a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime camera at front with the ability to record full HD 1080p videos.

Probably, many Apple fans might wonder if the vendor has compromised on the battery to keep the iPad Air skinny. But, at the launch event, Phil Schiller made it crystal clear that the fifth generation full sized iPad delivers 10 hours of battery life as before.

Apple also unwrapped colorful Smart Cases to protect the iPad and they will cost $80 (approx. Rs 4,900).
