Best Selfie Phone under 9000 in India [Reviews 2020]

1. Best Overall: Redmi 8A Dual

Redmi 8A Dual (Sea Blue, 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage) – Dual Cameras & 5,000 mAH Battery
SIM SlotsDual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor1.95 GHz, OctaCore
ChipsetQualcomm Snapdragon 439
Display6.22 inches, 720p IPS LCD
CameraFront: 8 MP and Rear: 12 MP + 2MP
Storage32GB expandable up to 512GB, 2GB RAM
Operating SystemAndroid 9 Pie
Connectivity2G, 3G, 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
Battery5000 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB Type-C port

Being powered by the Snapdragon 439, this phone runs smoothly. Users can expect an issues-free performance with the processor when it comes to CPU power, and the same can be said about the GPU. This is because the phone is equipped with an Adreno 505 GPU and it runs most mid-range popular games without any lag. It can also run some high requirement games at medium to high settings.

The phone comes with 32GB internal storage. So, storage should not be a matter of concern for casual users, but for those power users, they have provided with an option to expand storage with a microSD card. It is running on Android 9.0 Pie and is layered with Xiaomi’s MIUI 11.0.

The software might not be for everyone with the whole bloatware situation but if that doesn’t bother you too much then you are good to buy this. For the screen size of 6.22inch, 720p resolution is a great experience. So, if you love watching movies and videos on your phone, then the experience will be fantastic.

Now the part that concerns you the most, the camera department. This phone has a dual-camera set up on the back, with a 13MP main shooter and a 2MP depth sensor for those portrait effect shots. The selfie camera has an 8MP sensor with the ability to take HDR photos to get those high-quality images. Both front and rear cameras support 1080p 30fps video recording.

When it comes to other features, the lack of a fingerprint sensor might bug some people, so if you are one of those people who want a fast but secure lock system this phone might disappoint you. But this phone does have a splash-resistant body with a water repellent coating.

The built quality seems fine for the price with its plastic body and plastic frame. And the fact that it has an all-glass front does make it a bit vulnerable but the Gorilla Glass Protection is a nice addition.

It has a huge 5000mAh battery. So, if you love to not be bothered about charging your phone when traveling or heavily using your phone, this phone can be for you. Also, this phone does support an 18W fast charging ability which is a great addition.

Oppo is one of the most popular mobile phone brands among youngsters. It gives great impetus to its display and cameras, above all other features. It comes with a spacious 6.22-inch display which is great for people who use their phones extensively.

It is highly beneficial for people who watch a lot of videos and movies or even for people who surf the web and read on the phone for long hours. It avoids unnecessary eye strain when the user views the phone for a prolonged period. It comes with a high resolution of 720×1520 and is compatible with HD+ display.

It has a decent aspect ratio and as far as its cameras are concerned, the Oppo A 11k has a 13 MP rear camera, with a 2 MP depth sensor. It has a 5 MP front camera which can be used for taking selfies. The picture quality is not low, but not too high either and over prolonged use, the pictures captured also seem to be slightly grainy and cloudy.

The colours could have been more vivid and better contrast and acuity could have been incorporated into the pictures. Further, its low- light camera captures good quality pictures, but it can be improved. However, the rear camera has autofocus, which helps focus on the object of interest better before taking a picture, making it one of the best camera phones under 9000 in India 2020.

It has a 2 GB RAM and 32 GB internal memory, which can also be expanded by inserting a microSD card at the appropriate slot. Once the SD card is inserted, the phone’s memory expands up to 256 GB. It comes with dual sim features and only nano sims can be inserted in the dual sim slots.

Though the screen size may make the phone slightly unwieldy for using it, on one hand, it weighs just 163 grams and is comfortable to hold and handle. As on date, it is available in only two colours- Flowing Silver and Deep Blue colours. It has a decent design, which is not deviant from standard smartphones.

Oppo A 11k is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio processor. The phone runs on ColorOS, along with Android 9.0. It has a wide range of options for connectivity including 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, MicroUSB and Bluetooth.

The UI is good and does not radically deviate from standard Android UIs hence users who have prior experience in operation Android-based smartphones need not be apprehensive about buying this phone.

It has the standard array of sensors, which includes a magnetometer, accelerometer, proximity sensors and so on. Further, it also has a fingerprint sensor, which enhances the safety of the device by using biometric means. It also supports unlock using face recognition.

Pros
  • Budget-friendly
  • Good display and screen-size
  • User-friendly

3. Best Dual Camera: Samsung Galaxy M10

Samsung Galaxy M10 (Ocean Blue , 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage)
SIM SlotsDual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor1.6 GHz, Octa-core
ChipsetSamsung Exynos 7870 Octa
Display6.22 inches, 720p PLS TFT
CameraFront: 5MP, Rear: 13 MP + 5MP

ConnectivityWi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Micro USB, 3G/4G LTE
Battery3400 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

With a solid global presence in the mobile phone niche, Samsung is one of the brands which have great customer satisfaction and high brand reliability. Samsung Galaxy M 10 is a typical quality Samsung product.

Its USP is its display screen, which has a widescreen with a water drop notch at the top. This makes it eminently suitable for users who use their phones extensively for watching web series, movies, high-quality videos and also people who read and browse a lot. It is made of plastic and its very light, despite the heavy hardware packed into it.

The buttons are present where one expects them to be but the speaker holes are on the rear of the phone. Hence, the sound will be affected if the phone is placed on its back. It has dedicated sim slots for inserting dual sims.

The phone does not have a fingerprint sensor and face recognition is the only customized, biometric safety feature available. Hence, this might affect the overall security of the phone and the user. The UI is decent and the colours and brightness on the display could have been better.

It runs on the Exynos 7870 1.6GHz octa-core SoC. Though this has decent processing speed, it isn’t comparable with the likes of its contemporaries, like Snapdragon processors, for example. Further, this was already used in a Samsung product released about 2 years ago and Samsung could have tweaked its speed or other specifications, before using it for its latest product.

It comes with 2 variants- 2 GB RAM, 16 GB ROM and 3 GB RAM and 32 GB ROM. The internal storage of both these variants can be expanded by inserting microSD cards in the specified SD card slot.

It has a battery capacity of 3400 mAh, which is decent but it does not charge fast. It has 13 MP + 5 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. The photos captured turn out to be good, but there are grains and the colours are slight when inspected closely. And the pictures are darker than the original scenes captured.

However, it has a very good wide-angle camera. This way, there is extra room in the frame and it captures more than what an average camera does. Hence if one wants an affordable Samsung product, with its trademark UI and a decent battery, one can buy Samsung Galaxy M 10.

thumbs-up-icon
Pros
  • Sleek design
  • Decent battery life
  • Good for ultra-wide angle photography
thumbs-down-icon
Cons
  • Does not have a fingerprint sensor
  • Outdated processor
  • Unnecessary bloatware

4. Best for Social Media Vivo Y 11

Vivo Y11 (Agate Red, 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage) with No Cost EMI/Additional Exchange Offers
SIM SlotsHybrid Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor1.95GHz, Octa-core
ChipsetQualcomm Snapdragon 439

Battery5000 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

With a growing global market, Vivo is one of the best selling mobile phone brands. Vivo phones generally focus a lot on their display, design and camera and this phone is no exception. It has a 6.3-inch wide display, which makes it easier for the user to watch HD+ movies or casually read/ browse for long hours, without significant eye strain.

However, since it is a tad too wide, it may be slightly unwieldy. One might find it difficult to use the push buttons on the sides while using the phone in one hand.

It has a resolution of 720×1544, which is pretty good for viewing pictures and videos with good acuity. It has a Snapdragon 439 processor and shows decent processing speeds for ordinary, everyday usage.

However, the phone might run slow if energy-guzzling, performance-intensive applications (like gaming, for instance) are used for a long time. However, it normally functions without any lags and disruptions and does not crash often.

It comes with a 3 GB ram and 32 GB internal storage, which can be expanded by inserting an SD card in the appropriate slot. It has dual sim slots that are compatible only with nano sims.

Weighing about 190 grams, it is slightly on the heavier side. However,  the design ensures the phone does not get too heavy to handle and unwieldy.  It runs on FunTouch OS 9.1, which is Vivo’s own UI. It operates on top of Android 9.0. Along with standard sensors like magnetometer and accelerometer, it also comes with a fingerprint sensor.

This way, the safety of the phone, from the biometric point of view, is increased enormously. It also supports facial recognition, using which the user can unlock the phone. It is compatible with most networks used worldwide like LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G and 4G, amongst many others.

It is powered by a whopping 5000 mAh battery, which does not drain easily. Further, the phone also charges fast, making it useful for people who use their phones for a prolonged duration. Regarding the cameras, Vivo Y 11 has a 13 MP rear camera. This helps in capturing high-quality pictures in both low and moderate light. The pictures captured have less grain and the colours are vivid.

Further, the rear camera also has autofocus features. The front camera is rated at 8 MP, making Vivo Y 11 one of the best phones to offer a high MP front camera at a very affordable price, making it the best camera phone under 9000 Vivo.

thumbs-up-icon
Pros
  • Good front camera
  • Long battery life
  • Fingerprint sensor available
thumbs-down-icon
Cons
  • Processor speed could be improved
  • The screen is too wide

5. Best in Budget: PANASONIC ELUGA RAY 610

Panasonic Eluga Ray 610 (3GB RAM, 32GB Storage) (Black)
SIM SlotsDual SIM(Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor2GHz, Octa-core
ChipsetMediaTek Helio P22
Display6.22 inches, 720p IPS LCD
CameraFront: 5 MP, Rear: 13 MP + 2MP
Storage32GB expandable up to 512 GB, 3GB RAM
OSAndroid  v9.0(Pie)
ConnectivityWi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB,3G/4G LTE
Battery4000 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

Panasonic, the company synonymous with quality electronic home appliances, has also launched its range of smartphones. The Panasonic Eluga Ray 610 is one of the smartphones that come under the Panasonic flagship. The phone has a 5-inch touchscreen display, which is too small for a phone in its pricing range.

Most of its contemporaries have much higher display sizes. However, it has a decent resolution of 720×1280 pixels. Owing to its display size, watching videos and movies or simply reading and browsing for a prolonged duration of time might be hard. The design of the phone is good and is reasonably durable.

The phone is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad-core processor which is a tad too slow when compared to the processors in its contemporaries. Hence, the phone might be suitable for limited usage and it also may lag often. Many big applications cannot be downloaded or run and they crash frequently.

Hence this phone cannot be used for energy-intensive and performance-intensive applications like gaming. One can also observe significant disruption from the phone’s end, especially when one is using it for a long time. it has 3 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage, which can be expanded by inserting a MicroSD card in the appropriate slot.

However, the phone has a solid battery capacity of 4000 mAh. Despite this, the phone is also plagued by battery issues. The phone does not retain its charge for a reasonable amount of time and needs to be charged too often. Further, the phone does not charge fast. It runs on Android 6.0, which is almost outdated.

Hence the phone performance is slow and not quite at par with other phones of the same pricing. It supports connectivity through Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G, apart from others. It weighs 169 grams and is pretty compact and easy to hold and handle.

The phone comes with a 5 MP front camera, which can be used for clicking decent quality selfies. It also has a rear camera of 13 MP with a depth sensor of 2 MP. The cameras work well but need to be improved, especially when one is capturing pictures during daytime. Its low-light picture quality must also be improved.

The phone comes with the usual line up of sensors. It contains magnetometers, accelerometers but it does not have a fingerprint sensor. The lack of features for ensuring safety through biometric means puts the phone and the user into considerable risk.

thumbs-up-icon
Pros
  • Compact to hold
  • Suitable for limited use
  • Good as backup
thumbs-down-icon
Cons
  • Outdated OS and processor
  • Crashes often and battery drains out frequently

6. Best for Snapseed Editing: NOKIA 3.2

Nokia 3.2 (Black, 3GB RAM, 32GB Storage)
SIM SlotsDual SIM(Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor1.93 GHz, OctaCore
ChipsetQualcomm Snapdragon 429
Display6.26 inches, 720p IPS LCD
CameraFront: 5MP,  Rear: 13 MP
Storage16/32GB expandable up to 512GB, 2/3GB RAM
OSAndroid 9.0(Pie)
ConnectivityWi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB,3G/4G LTE
Battery4000 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

Known for its reliability, the Nokia brand has a strong customer presence all over the world.  The Nokia 3.2 is designed in a very basic, utilitarian manner, without compromising on important features. The body is made of polycarbonate and the rear is reflective. This makes the phone lightweight, despite hardware incorporated into it.

However, the rear smudges easily and too often, especially when one is using the phone for a long time. It has a 6.26-inch HD+ display, which makes this phone a great choice for people who watch and stream high-quality videos on their phones and use them extensively for reading and browsing.

However, the user might find it very hard to hold and handle the phone in one hand because of its large screen size. Apart from this, it is as easy to handle as any other android phones. It has a headphone jack on the top and the power and volume buttons are on the sides.

It has a decent aspect ratio and good resolution, which makes it especially good for streaming. It is powered by a Snapdragon 429 processor, which makes it slower than most phones. The phones which cost less than Nokia 3.2 have faster, more updated processors.

The phone comes in 2 variants- 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage and 3 GB, 32 GB internal storage. But the internal storage can be expanded by inserting microSD cards at the appropriate slots. It supports various connectivity features like 3G, 4G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS etc.

Authentication is done using facial recognition and fingerprint sensors. However, the fingerprint sensor is available only on the 3 GB variant of the phone and not on 2 GB. It has other sensors like light sensor, magnetometer, proximity sensors and accelerometer. Its battery, rated at 4000 mAh has a decent life and does not drain out fast.

Cameras ought to have been better on this device since certain essential features are conspicuously lacking. It has a 13 MP rear camera but does not have a depth sensor, while phones, whose costs align with that of Nokia 3.2, have a 2 MP depth sensor and in some cases, much more. It has a 5 MP camera which works well but could have been better.

To sum up, the camera facilities offered by Nokia 3.2 are very basic and must be improved by the phone, to cater to a segment of the phone- buying populace which places a lot of emphasis on camera quality. However, by far, it is Nokia’s best camera phone under 9000.

thumbs-up-icon
Pros
  • Decent battery life
  • Large display
  • Frequent OS updates
thumbs-down-icon
Cons
  • Rear camera not at par
  • Slow processor

Storage32GB expandable up to 512GB , 3GB RAM
OSAndroid v9.0 Pie
ConnectivityWi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth,3G/4G LTE
Battery3520 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

It comes with a Unisoc SC9863, which is a processor unique to Gionee. It works well, without any major hitches. It is an octa-core processor which measures 1.65 GHz. It is aided greatly by the 3 GB RAM.

It comes with a 32 GB storage, which can be expanded to accommodate more applications in the future, using an SD card. It runs on Android OS, and there are rarely any technical hitches that happen during run time.

It has a 5.7-inch display, with 720×1520 pixels. The pixel density of GIONEE F9 is 295, which is among the highest in the market. Hence, this helps in viewing images sharply and clearly. However, there is no HD display. The touch sensors work well, with hampering ease of use.

There is a 13 MP rear camera that can be used to click good quality images, but there is no mention of a 2 MP depth sensor, in the product specifications. The front camera is at 8 MP, which is good for clicking good quality selfies and for clear video-calling.

The design is compact and highly-user friendly. It weighs only 154 g and is one of the lightest phones, with a lot of features, to be available online. There are no major modifications in port arrangements.

The phone is powered by a 3250 mAh Li-ion battery. It charges fast, performs well and may require a power bank, in case of extensive usage. It generally does not drain out quickly and is capable of retaining charge while in active usage for an appreciable amount of time.

8. Good Battery Backup: Redmi 7

Redmi 7 (Comet Blue, 2GB RAM, SD 632, 32GB Storage, 4000mAH Battery)
SIM SlotsDual SIM(Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor1.8 GHz, OctaCore
ChipsetQualcomm Snapdragon 632
Display6.26 inches, 720p IPS LCD
CameraFront: 8 MP, Rear: 12 MP + 2MP
Storage16/32/64 GB expandable to 512GB, 2/3/4GB RAM
OSAndroid v9.0 (Pie)
ConnectivityWi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth,3G/4G LTE
Battery4000 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

Another phone of the Redmi series in this list and this one is the predecessor to the one above. It equips a Snapdragon 632 processor which is a powerful chipset for the price of the phone. Being a generation old does give it an advantage in terms of performance to price value. Normal usage and gaming, both are absolutely amazing in this device especially with the Adreno 506 GPU in it.

Redmi offers a 16, 32 and a 64GB variant option. So, you can choose the storage option to your liking depending upon your needs. Not only that, if the storage seems insufficient to you, you can also consider adding a microSD card to it for some expansion.

The phone is running on Android 9.0 and is upgradeable to Android 10. So, it is running the latest software and running smoothly. But it does have the MIUI in case you are not fond of that UI,

A huge display and a good resolution, that is what this phone has. The 6.26-inch screen synergizes well with the 720p, which although seems less, is actually good enough for the price.

If we focus on the cameras, we have a dual-camera at the back of the phone. It is a 12MP main camera paired with a 2MP depth sensor which is a good addition for those portrait shot lovers. For the selfie lovers, it has an 8MP front camera and shots taken by it are impressive. Not only that, but both the front and back cameras also support 1080p video recording and for the back camera it is supported up to 60fps which is great.

This phone has a plastic body with a glass front and a plastic frame. The phone feels sturdy in hand and can last some drops without an issue, that is if the front side of the phone is secure. This phone also has a fingerprint sensor on the back and it is quite fast and secure as well. So, no need to worry about your security.

Last but not least, the battery size. The 4000 mAh battery is nicely coupled with the screen size. The phone manages to survive an entire day without much issue. So, you won’t face any battery life problems on this phone even if you use it a lot. Though the battery is non-removable if that concerns you in any way.

thumbs-up-icon
Pros
  • Multiple Storage options to choose from and also the SD card support
  • Camera performance is great in both photos and videos
  • Running the latest Android version
thumbs-down-icon
Cons
  • The software is filled with Xiaomi bloatware
  • No support for fast charging

9. Best for Teens: Vivo Y91i

Vivo Y91i (Ocean Blue, 2GB RAM, 32GB Storage)
SIM SlotsDual SIM(Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor2.0 GHz, OctaCore
ChipsetHelio P22
Display6.22 inches, 720p IPS LCD
CameraFront: 5MP, Rear: 13 MP
Storage16/32 GB expandable up to 512GB, 2GB RAM
OSAndroid  8.1
ConnectivityWi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB,3G/4G LTE
Battery4030 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

Launched in March 2019, Vivo Y91i is one of the most recent phones launched by the brand Vivo. It has a 6.22-inch touch screen display which is quite wide and ample. It is pretty suitable for people who watch a lot of videos and movies or extensively browse and read on their phones.

However, its large screen size makes it very difficult for the user to hold it in one hand and operate it. It has a good aspect ratio and a resolution of 720×1520 pixels, which makes it suitable for streaming high- quality videos.

The phone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio processor. It has only one variant- 2 GB RAM, 16 GB internal storage which can be expanded by adding a microSD card at the appropriate slot. The processor is good for limited to moderate usage and works without any glaring lags and disruptions.

However, the phone tends to run slow when heavy storage, performance-intensive applications are being used and worse, those apps also crash if used for a long period. With a decent battery capacity of 4030 mAh, the phone also charges very fast and the battery does not drain easily. Hence it is suitable for medium- performance prolonged usage.

The OS used in this phone is FunTouch OS which runs on top of Android 8.1. The existing FunTouch OS could have been replaced by a more recent version and the version off Android used is also pretty dated. Otherwise, it has a decent UI that can be found on any standard Android-based smartphones. It has dual sim slots that accept only nano sims.

Like any other Android phone, it supports various connectivity features like 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and MicroUSB. It weighs only 163 grams, which is pretty understandable considering its hardware and is available in Fusion Black and Ocean Blue colours.

Regarding its cameras, Vivo Y91i contains a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera. The quality of the photos captured is decent but could have been better. The colours could have been more vivid and the pictures could have had less grain. The pictures could have been brighter and the quality of images captured both in daylight and low- light conditions could be improved.

Further, the rear camera does not have a depth sensor, which is generally found in the rear cameras of other phones, which cost the same as Vivo Y91i. However, the rear camera has autofocus features.

thumbs-up-icon
Pros
  • Good battery life
  • Cheap
  • Sleek design
thumbs-down-icon
Cons
  • Fingerprint sensor missing
  • Dated Android version

10. Value for Money: Mobiistar E1

SIM SlotsHybrid Dual SIM (Nano-SIM, dual standby)
Processor1.3 GHz quadcore
ChipsetMediaTek MT6739
Display5.45 inch, 720p IPS LCD
CameraFront  13 MP, Rear 13 MP
Storage32 GB expandable up to 128 GB, 3GB RAM
OSAndroid 8.1
ConnectivityWi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, Micro USB,3G/4G LTE
Battery3000 mAh
PortsAudio jack, USB

Launched in 2018, Mobiistar E1 is relatively new to the world of mobile phones. It has a display size of 5.45 inches. Such a small screen size makes the phone compact, user- friendly and easy to hold and handle. However, owing to the small screen size, the user may find it very difficult to watch and stream videos on the phone.

Further, he/ she may also find it very difficult to stare at the screen for long hours, especially when he/ she is working on a project, surfing the web or even casually reading. This causes significant eye strain, especially owing to prolonged usage.

It has a resolution of 720×1440 pixels and one can watch good quality videos on the phone. It has a decent aspect ratio and the phone does not have multiple variants. Rather, it has only one version- 3 GB RAM, 32 GB ROM.

The internal storage can be expanded up to 128 GB with the help of a microSD card which can be inserted into its appropriate slot. It has dual sim slots into which two nano sims can be inserted. It offers connectivity features similar to other Android phones. Using this phone, one can connect with 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and MicroUSB.

It runs on ARM Cortex- A53 quad-core processor, which can clock a maximum of 1.3 GHz. However, it is slower than its contemporaries and is meant only for limited to moderate usage. Applications which do not drain much energy and do not require high processor speed can be run on this phone without any significant lags or disruptions.

However, in the case of heavy-duty applications, there is significant lag and the apps crash suddenly or do not open at all. Further, the phone also tends to overheat. Hence the phone can be subjected to limited usage and can be operated only for limited amounts of time.

The phone’s battery is rated at 3000 mAh. However, despite having a decent battery capacity, it does not retain charge for a long time and rather, discharges fast. It also takes a very long time to charge and in most cases, the charger gets overheated, hindering the charging process further.

The phone has a 13 MP rear camera but does not have a depth sensor which is generally found in its contemporaries. Surprisingly, it has a 13 MP front camera- the phone whose front camera has the highest MP. Both the front and rear cameras capture decent pictures. However, there is still scope for improvement.
